I teach in the Business program, particularly in accounting. I also teach in CNT (this term is my first term in that department). I have two Associate’s degrees, one in CNS (Computer Network Science) from ITT Tech, and one in Accounting from PPC. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in CIS (Computer Information Science) from the UofO.
To be honest, I never saw myself as a teacher. However, I needed a job and was in talking to Donna White, Career Services Director, when, coincidentally, Linda Farmer, Business/General Education Program Director, poked her head in and said she needed an adjunct accounting instructor. Donna said that I was qualified, so Linda hired me on. However, since then I have found teaching to be one of my favorite jobs that I have had. Often times with jobs it is hard to tell if you are making a difference in people’s lives. It is not hard to tell with this job as I see many of my students go on to have successful careers. Therefore, it is a fulfilling job. The favorite part of my job is seeing a student struggle when they start here and become more and more confident as they continue.
Most people do not know that I was raised in a large adoptive family. I was not adopted, nor one of my brothers, but my parents adopted 28 children and therefore I had 29 siblings. It was very interesting and sometimes frustrating growing up in such a family, but I mostly enjoyed it. If I had one super power, it would be time travel. I would love to see history played out in real life. I would love seeing how the history books measure up to real life, and I would like to see many times before recorded history, such as the dinosaur ages. I would also love seeing the future and how much will change between now and then. Oh, and the lottery would cease to be a gamble and would now be an investment. 😉
