•In 1965, I went to work for the State of Oregon Highway Department, surveying for freeway construction in The Dalles and Portland.

•Came back to Salem and joined the Salem Police Department in 1969

•Retired in 2003 after 35 year of law enforcement: over 20 years with the Salem police Department and 14 years with the Marion County District Attorney’s Office

•Went back to school and earned my master’s degree in criminal justice; currently completing my PhD (doctorate) in criminal justice – Hope to be done by the end of the year (2015)

•Began teaching college. I love teaching and sharing experiences and knowledge with young people who are excited about learning. I am amazed about how little history of our country young people are taught. I feel an obligation to teach them about our collective past.

•My wife is from the Philippines. We have a 14 year old daughter.

•As a result of meeting my wife, I have been to the Philippines four times so far.

•I try to explain to students why it is important to try to see as much of the world as they can.

•I am working on a book, a historical look at those who are still missing from World War II in the Philippines, including my brother.

•photography, both digital and medium format film, are hobbies
