What to Expect After Graduation

After graduation, it’s time to establish your career goals, find a job, and start paying off any student loans you may have acquired. These tasks can seem daunting, but there are plenty of resources available for assistance now and after graduation.

Professional Development

The Pioneer Pacific Career Services Department offers a Professional Development Course for students prior to graduation. In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of post-graduation skills. Use this class to help set career goals, prep materials like your resume and cover letter, learn how to network, and other career-oriented tools to help you succeed.

The Pioneer Pacific Blog is another great resource for students and graduates. There are plenty of articles related to post-graduation success. You can keep checking back for nuggets of knowledge as you search for your job and advance toward your career goals.

Finding The Job

Once you’ve figured out your career goals, begin searching for a job that will help you achieve them. If you need help setting goals or finding resources for job leads, contact the Career Services Department for one-on-one assistance. We’re here to help you find resources for job opportunities while preparing you for interviews and debriefing with you after each one.

Depending on your degree, it’s advisable to look at paid internships as a way to transition from post-graduation into a full-time career. Internships can be a great way to gain experience in an industry while strengthening your resume.

Loans

If you’ve taken out loans, it will be time to start paying shortly after you graduate. You can set up a payment plan or customize your repayment plans to meet your expectations. You should be notified about your loans, in accordance with what type of loan(s) you took out. Follow the promptings to set up a payment plan. Be sure to figure loan repayment into your budget as you plan for your salary in your new position.
