Meet Deanna Kritch, Pharmacy Technician

What were you doing prior to enrolling at Pioneer Pacific College?

I worked for a manufacturing company for twenty-four years and was laid off. I qualified for Trade Act funding and decided to return to school.

Why did you choose PPC?

The Trade Act only pays for accredited programs and I love the small campus. You can truly get to know the staff and instructors.

Why did you choose the Pharmacy Technician Program?

I wanted a field that showed signs of growth and longevity and could not be moved offshore.

What were some of your challenges while a student at PPC?

The program was an entirely new field for me, so that alone was challenging. I am also an older student and had to relearn study skills and time management. Thankfully, I have a very supportive husband who valued my education and helped provide the time I needed. He also quizzed me when needed!

What was the job search process like for you?

Somewhat discouraging at first, but my program director and career services provided lots of leads. I graduated in October and was hired the first week of December.

What are your short term goals?

Continue learning about the pharmacy industry and my job duties as a technician.

What are your long term goals?

Retire! In the meantime, I’d like to find a position where I really enjoy my co-workers and the schedule allows me to spend time with my family.

What advice would you like to give other students at PPC?

Don’t get behind! The schedules are aggressive and it is hard to catch up. Take advantage of the one-on-one help available from your instructors. Find one or two friends to study with and encourage each other. Take it seriously, be on time for classes, and do all the extra credit available.
